The Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, Oybek Kasimov, assessed the success of his country in Paris 2024 to the AA correspondent.
Kasimov stated that Uzbekistan won 8 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals in Paris 2024, the best in its history, and said that the basis of this success is the great support of sports from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Noting that at the stage of preparation for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, the necessary conditions were created in all branches, Kasimov said that many preparatory training camps were held in the country and abroad with the participation of high-level foreign coaches.
Kasimov stressed that as a result, the number of sports in which Uzbek athletes participate in the Olympic Games has increased, and that his country was represented for the first time in football, archery, women's wrestling and diving at these Olympic Games, where they participated with 90 athletes in 19 sports.
Speaking about the importance of the opportunities provided by the government of the country to the national teams, Kasimov said that Uzbek boxers started working by going to Paris 2024 in 15 days, and were preparing for the Olympics by playing matches with athletes from other countries there.
Kasimov stated that 2 successful athletes in the weight of each of the Uzbek boxers were brought to Paris and they were given the opportunity to prepare in the best possible way, and that this played an important role in the fact that 5 of the 7 boxers who participated in the Olympic Games won gold medals.
Stressing that the results at the last Olympic Games are important in terms of what areas they will develop further in the future, Kasimov stressed that specialists analyze all this and they prepare for future tournaments, learning from mistakes.
Kasimov said: "Uzbekistan has shown the world its capabilities in the field of sports by hosting many world Championships in recent years. Weightlifting in 2021, judo in 2022 and boxing in 2023 were held at the highest level in our country."
Roziokhunov: "We have shown that Uzbekistan is a boxing country."
The coach of the Uzbek national boxing team, Rakhmatjan Roziokhunov, said that preparations for the 2024 Olympics in Paris began immediately after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Roziogunov said that the government of the country, especially President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, provides them with all the necessary opportunities to prepare for the Olympics, and within this framework they organize preparatory training camps in the country and abroad with the participation of foreign coaches.
Roziogunov stated that they arrived in Paris in 15 days and worked there with athletes from other countries to make up for their shortcomings, and also invited foreign judges to the Uzbek Boxing Championship for impartial guidance, and that all this played an important role in their success at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Roziogunov noted that athletes annually participate in at least 2-3 international tournaments, and local and foreign coaches work together to ensure that boxers go to the Olympics in the best shape.
Recalling that Uzbek boxers won 3 gold medals at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and 1 gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020, Rozekhunov said: "Uzbek boxers won 5 gold medals at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, and we have shown that Uzbekistan is a boxing country. We must continue in the same spirit at the next Olympic Games."
