Uzbekistan to provide assistance to wounded Palestinians
President Mirziyoyev announced that the injured Palestinian women and children will be treated in Uzbekistan.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that they are ready to accept Palestinian women and children injured in Israeli attacks for treatment in Uzbek hospitals.
Mirziyoyev spoke at an emergency joint summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the League of Arab States in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The summit discussed Israel's ongoing attacks on the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, as well as ceasefire issues.
According to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan, in his speech Mirziyoyev noted that, despite the urgent appeals and efforts of the world community, Israel continues to grossly violate international norms and decisions.
The President expressed regret that Israel's attacks had spread to Lebanon, adding: "These devastating and horrific attacks, which claimed the lives of thousands of innocent children, women and the elderly, are becoming one of the darkest pages in the new history of mankind."
Mirziyoyev stressed that it is impossible to observe without pain how social facilities, schools, hospitals, mosques, entire cities are destroyed, and how millions of civilians remain homeless, face hunger and disease. "The saddest thing is that this tragedy, which we are all witnessing, is being met by the international community with double standards. This significantly increases the likelihood of a large—scale spread of war and has a serious impact on international security," he added.
Mirziyoyev, noting that Uzbekistan fully supports all constructive initiatives aimed at resolving the Palestinian-Israeli issue through peaceful and diplomatic means, expressed confidence that common political will and unity will be demonstrated at today's summit. He also stressed that effective mechanisms and concrete solutions will be developed and implemented as soon as possible, both at the global and regional levels.
Mirziyoyev said that the role and influence of the UN Security Council in resolving this long-standing conflict should increase significantly, noting the need for an immediate end to conflicts, the creation of safe humanitarian corridors and, most importantly, the start of peace negotiations. According to him, these issues should remain in the focus of the UN Security Council.
"The Palestinian people have the right to establish an independent and free State"
Mirziyoyev stressed that the Palestinian people, possessing an ancient and rich history, have the right to establish an independent and free state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. In this context, he expressed Uzbekistan's full support for the activities of the Global Alliance for a Two-State Solution initiated by Saudi Arabia.
He also noted that in order to prevent an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian and Lebanese territories, it is necessary to strengthen assistance from foreign states and international organizations, adding: "We are ready to accept wounded Palestinian women and children for treatment in hospitals in Uzbekistan."
Mirziyoyev stressed that it is planned to discuss issues of assistance to the Palestinian people at the Persian Gulf—Central Asia summit, which will be held next year in Samarkand. He also added that within the framework of the OIC, special attention should be paid to ensuring the inviolability and protection of unique historical and cultural sites such as the Al-Aqsa Mosque and other holy sites in Jerusalem.
