Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan have increased oil transportation via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan line

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline delivers oil to Turkey not only from Azerbaijan, but also from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline with a length of 768 km, built under the leadership of Turkey and Azerbaijan, transports oil produced in the Caspian region, especially Azerbaijani oil, to the port of Ceyhan. According to BOTAŞ, 228,811 barrels of oil were transported via BTC in 2023.

The share of oil from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan shipped to Turkey in 2024 via the pipeline, which has an annual crude oil transportation capacity of 50 million tons, has increased. In the period from January to July 2024, 17.2 million tons of oil were shipped to the international market via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.

Of the oil volume in the pipeline, Azerbaijani oil accounted for 13.95 million tons, while Turkmen and Kazakh oil accounted for more than 3 million tons. Thus, compared to the same period in 2023, the export of Turkmen and Kazakh oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline increased by 10.5 percent.

Refined petroleum products also took the first place in trading on the State Commodity Exchange of Turkmenistan.

In July, 31 transactions worth more than $60 million were conducted on the Turkmen Stock Exchange. As part of these transactions, entrepreneurs from Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Afghanistan purchased liquefied gas, diesel fuel and other petroleum products produced by the Turkmen State Chemical Corporation.
