Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said: "Thanks to this agreement, we have reached an agreement on the transportation of Turkmen natural gas to Turkey through Azerbaijan and Georgia."
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said that relations have reached a new level thanks to the agreement signed between Turkey and Azerbaijan on cooperation in the field of natural gas, and said: "With this agreement, we have reached an agreement on the transportation of natural gas from Turkmenistan to Turkey through Azerbaijan and Georgia."
Bayraktar company took part in the signing ceremony in Istanbul of the Agreement on cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan in the field of natural gas with the participation of the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikail Jabbarov.
Speaking at a press conference held after the ceremony, Bayraktar noted that the firm will of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is the most concrete indicator and at the same time a guarantee of bilateral cooperation, and recalled that relations at the level of bilateral strategic partnership have reached the level of strategic alliance with the Shusha Declaration signed on June 15, 2021.
Noting that the Shusha Declaration is in a sense a roadmap for cooperation between the two states, Bayraktar said that they have seen many reflections of cooperation, especially in the fields of economics and energy, as well as diplomacy and the army.
"The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline is extremely important for global markets"
Noting that so far the two countries have jointly developed many projects, Bayraktar said: "The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline is extremely important for the supply of oil in the Caspian region and the geography of the Caucasus, especially Azerbaijan, to Turkey and through Turkey to world markets. This is a very important project for the global oil market, frankly speaking, in order for the global oil supply to be balanced. We have demonstrated this with the strong will of the two countries, and until today, oil has been entering the world through this pipeline without any problems."
An agreement has been reached on the supply of Turkmen natural gas to Turkey
Bayraktar recalled that the two countries are developing the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline and the Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP) project and continued:
"Thanks to this exemplary cooperation, Turkey and Azerbaijan are making a significant contribution to both our own security of supply and the security of Europe's energy supply. Especially with the agreement that we signed today, our relations are reaching a new level in the field of natural gas. There are many issues in this agreement. As part of this agreement, we envisage that by 2030, Azerbaijani resources, natural gas, natural gas in the Caspian Sea, additional volumes of gas will flow to Turkey, and part of the natural gas will flow to Europe through Turkey. At the same time, as a result of this agreement, an agreement was reached on the transportation of Turkmen natural gas to Turkey through Azerbaijan and Georgia."
Stating that the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline, which will supply natural gas to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, is a new "brother" for pipelines jointly developed by Turkey and Azerbaijan, Bayraktar said: "I hope that this winter natural gas to Nakhchivan will be supplied through Turkey. We plan to put this line into operation as soon as possible. It is obvious that our construction activity is nearing completion."
Noting that within the framework of the agreement signed today, he and invited Minister Jabbarov discussed the period up to 2030 and beyond in terms of increasing the capacity of the TANAP and South Caucasus gas pipelines, Bayraktar said: "Of course, we will jointly conduct research on expanding the capacity in both Bulgaria and Greece, especially in European countries connection points to ensure more gas supplies from Caspian resources to Europe via Turkey and Turkey. That is why today we signed such a comprehensive agreement with our Minister. This agreement showed once again that with the help of these agreements, we will continue to strengthen the strong brotherhood and cooperation of these two countries, God willing."
Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikail Jabbarov stressed that Turkey and Azerbaijan are two fraternal countries, and said that the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline unites the fraternal Turkic states of Central Asia.
Jabbarov said that today's agreement reveals the policy of the two countries on the implementation of long-term, large-scale and politically oriented projects, and noted that Turkish-Azerbaijani cooperation contributes to the energy security of Europe.
Touching upon the importance of the Igdir-Nakhchivan pipeline, Jabbarov noted that with the supply of natural gas to this region, the energy security of Nakhchivan, as well as the Turkish-Azerbaijani brotherhood, will be strengthened.
Jabbarov added that these investments are the result of stabilization processes in the Turkish economy.
