TRNC Tatar President: Turkey's leadership in the face of human tragedies makes us proud
TRNC President Ersin Tatar said: "The leadership of the Republic of Turkey, which is the voice of conscience in this geography, in the face of wars, crises and human tragedies, makes us proud."
President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar stated that Turkey has successfully demonstrated the importance of diplomacy to the international community with its recent steps, and said, "The leadership of the Republic of Turkey, which is the voice of conscience in this geography, in the face of wars, crises and human tragedies, makes us proud."
The President of the TRNC Tatars spoke at a joint press conference with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan after their meeting in Nicosia.
According to Tatar, it is indicative of what the international system has achieved, which stands aside and watches as human rights are violated when it comes to its interests, and almost every day turns a blind eye to the mass killings of innocent people.
Drawing attention to Turkey's support for the TRNC at almost every site, Tatar continued as follows:
"In an unfair global environment, we are stubbornly fighting to establish the inalienable rights of the Turkish Cypriot people and to confirm their sovereign and equal international status. We are grateful to our Motherland, which supported us on all platforms on this honorable journey, was by our side and mobilized all its means to bring our state forward and bring it to the status it deserves."
The President of the TRNC Tatars stated that a formula of a federation-based solution had been imposed on them, which had failed in the 56-year negotiation process in Cyprus, stressing that they would not accept this model, which had become an exhausted status quo, and that they would say "No to the status quo."
Recalling that the formulas of solutions based on federation collapsed during the negotiations between the parties in Crans-Montana in 2017, Tatar said that the lack of common ground between the two sides was reflected in the United Nations reports.
Pointing out that the Turkish military has been in Cyprus for 50 years as a guarantee of peace, Tatar said that the TRNC is the key to peace, tranquility and security in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Stating that the TRNC's admission to the Organization of Turkic States as an "observer member" is an important turning point for his country's future, Tatar thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his efforts and support in this process.
The President of the TRNC Tatar noted that Turkey, through its diplomacy, has built bridges even between hostile parties that cannot communicate with each other, and said: "The leadership of the Republic of Turkey, which is the voice of conscience in this geography, in the face of wars, crises and human tragedies makes us proud. We are proud of all the employees of your ministry who have shown the importance of diplomacy instead of violence for the international system."
Stating that they were continuing negotiations with the Greek Cypriot administration of Southern Cyprus on the opening of new checkpoints, Tatar said: "We will wait and see," answering a journalist's question about the progress of the negotiations.
