TRNC President Ersin Tatar said that Turkish Cypriots cannot be brought to their knees by an embargo

The Tatar president said: "They will not be able to bring the Turkish Cypriot people to their knees with restrictions such as a ban on direct flights, a ban on direct trade, a ban on direct contacts, sports embargoes."

President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar stated that the Turkish Cypriots on the island of Cyprus have paved the way with their own language, religion, culture, destiny and struggle for all their interlocutors, especially for the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU), and said: "They will not be able to bring the Turkish Cypriots to their knees with the help of restrictions such as a ban on direct flights, a ban on direct trade, a ban on direct contacts, sports embargoes."

The Center for the Application and Research of Asian Studies at Ankara Haji Bayram Veli University (AHBV) organized an exhibition, an interview and an event on the day of signing documents with the participation of Tatars on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus peacekeeping operation.

The event, which took place at the Congress and Culture Center of the AHBV campus in Itri, was attended by Tatar, Rector of AHBV University Professor Dr. Mehmet Naji Bostanji, academics, students and numerous guests.

In his speech here, Ersin Tatar spoke about the historical past of the island of Cyprus and said: "During the Ottoman Empire, the Greeks on the island lived in continuous peace and tranquility for 350 years."

Pointing out that the island of Cyprus was under British sovereignty from 1923 to 1960 and that today there are two British sovereign bases on the island, Tatar said that these bases pose a danger to the island.

Tatar stated that Turkey has always been close to the Turkish Cypriots.

Recalling that the Greek Cypriots were preparing for Greece in the Beshparmak mountains before the Cyprus peace operation, Tatar said that today's map was drawn up with an operation organized by the Turkish armed forces.

Stating that they had been fighting for a federal solution on the island for years, Tatar said: "They unilaterally accepted Southern Cyprus into the European Union. With the EU member state, the solution of the Cyprus issue has become even more difficult," he said.

Tatar stated that the TRNC has turned its direction towards the Turkic world.

Tatar stated that the Turkish Cypriots in the Eastern Mediterranean will protect all the wealth around the island of Cyprus until the end.

I say: "There are 85 million Turks behind me."

Stressing that the embargo against the TRNC should be lifted, Tatar continued as follows:

"The new policy that we are currently pursuing is a two-state policy. The importance of the two-State policy lies in the fact that the Turkish state in the north is an independent sovereign state. In the Blue Homeland, with its maritime jurisdictional zones, territorial waters, airspace, and some other lines of economic exclusive zones, we are really talking about a geography where we have more rights and laws together with Turkey on our own territory and in the blue homeland."

Stating that Turkish Cypriots on the island of Cyprus have paved the way with their language, religion, culture, destiny and struggle for all their interlocutors, especially for the UN and the EU, Tatar said:

"They will not be able to bring the Turkish Cypriot people to their knees with restrictions such as a ban on direct flights, a ban on direct flights trade, a ban on direct contacts, an embargo on sports. When we tell them that we will resist this to the end and that we will defend our state to the end, when they say, "But," what do I answer: "I have 85 million Turkish dollars behind me."

Tatar said he would cancel his visits to Samsun and Trabzon and return to the TRNC due to the crisis of the opening of the Assembly of the Republic with the withdrawal of the Republican Turkish Party and related events.

The rector of AHBV University, Professor Dr. Bostanji, stated that Tatar fought for the Turkish Cypriots at every stage of his life.

Recalling that the Cyprus peacekeeping operation took place 50 years ago in July, Bostanji stressed that when it comes to Cyprus, the whole of Turkey stands on its feet.

Bostanji noted that the Tatar is fighting for a peaceful situation on the island of Cyprus.

After the performances, Tatar signed his book for the participants.
