The third Central Asia-European Union Summit will be held in Uzbekistan this year

The third Central Asia-European Union Summit will be held in the first half of this year in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyar Saidov held a telephone conversation with the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaya Kallas.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the state and development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Noting that relations between Central Asia and Europe are developing rapidly, the parties noted that they have achieved many results from mutual cooperation and that wider opportunities for cooperation are opening up before them.

During the meeting, the parties also noted that the previously postponed 3rd Central Asia-European Union Summit would be held in the first half of this year in the historic city of Samarkand.

The third Central Asia-European Union summit was planned to be held in Samarkand last spring, but it was postponed for a number of reasons.

The first Central Asia–European Union Summit, attended by the heads of State of the Central Asian countries and senior officials of the European Union, was held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, in October 2022, and the second summit was held in Cholpan Ata (Kyrgyzstan) in June 2023.
