President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar said that if Turkey leaves the island, events similar to those that occurred in Palestine may occur there.

Tatar was present as part of his contacts in Istanbul; he made assessments at the conference "The Perspective of the TRNC in the Age of Turkey" organized by the Eurasian Platform for Strategic Studies (ASAD).

Stating that the process regarding the events in Israel and Palestine should be followed, Tatar stressed the importance of cooperation with Turkey in this process.

Stressing the importance of Turkey for the island, Tatar said that if Turkey leaves the island, events similar to those that occurred in Palestine may occur.

Stating that the TRNC's participation in the Organization of Turkic States as an observer member last year opened up new opportunities, the Tatar President said that the country's institutions, such as state, academic and professional chambers, are in contact with other Turkic states under this roof and represent the country there.

"The TRNC is gradually taking its rightful place in the world"

Speaking about the strategies for recognizing the TRNC, Tatar noted that students from 144 different countries study at TRNC universities and that tourists from more countries come to the TRNC, trade with more than 100 countries is conducted, and planes land in the TRNC via Turkey.

Stressing that all this is "an indicator that the TRNC is gradually taking its rightful place in the world," Ersin Tatar noted that their wish is "recognition."

Drawing attention to Russia's decision to initiate consular procedures, Tatar said that the United States and Great Britain already have consular services and that direct flights at the moment will bring "great benefits.

" "I am concerned about recognition, but we cannot reduce the whole struggle to it," said the president of the TRNC Tatars and stressed that they They are doing their job despite the unfair decision of the United Nations (UN) to show the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCA) as the legitimate state of the island.

The President of the Tatars stated that they had "prepared the infrastructure in order to go into the future with safer steps, moving forward various relations with countries."

Green light for name change

Answering a question about the proposal of the chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (HDP) Devlet Bahceli to "change the name of the TRNC to the Turkish Republic of Cyprus," Tatar recalled that although there are different opinions on this issue, he approached this proposal "positively" and that changing the name can only be possible with amendments to the constitution.

As for the frequent change of power in the country, Tatar said: "In order to ensure stability, deputies must make some sacrifices and protect the administration," and noted that the current government has been working for the 3rd year.

Tatar stated that false allegations were appearing in the press about the sale of goods to foreigners in the country, and stated that, in accordance with the law, a security investigation was conducted before selling to foreigners.

Explaining that efforts are being made to solve some of the problems related to this issue, Tatar said: "We will not endanger our state in this way."

Tatar is expected to return to the island after the 7th Istanbul Economic Summit, in which he will take part.
