The Ombudsman of Turkmenistan discussed cooperation with UNICEF and the EBRD

 

Recently, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Yazdursun Gurbannazarova of Turkmenistan met with Jalpa Ratnaya, Head of the Representative office of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan:  The meeting took place at the Office of the Ombudsman to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation, the Golden Age reports.

Noting that UNICEF is the main international partner of the Ombudsman's office, Y.Gurbannazarova said that various activities are being carried out within the framework of cooperation on issues related to the protection of children's rights. For her part, Jalpa Ratna stressed the positive quality and effectiveness of the policy of the Government of Turkmenistan in the field of protection of children's rights, highly appreciated the work of the Ombudsman's office in this area and noted the importance of its role as an independent institution in the protection and promotion of human rights in the country.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation.

On the same day, Gurbannazarova met with David Lewis, Senior Policy Adviser to the Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The meeting was held to familiarize with the observance of human rights in Turkmenistan and the activities of the Ombudsman's office.

During the meeting, it was noted that relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the field of human rights are constantly developing. Y.Gurbannazarova informed about the activities, achievements, experience and international cooperation in the field of ensuring human rights and freedoms since its inception and noted that this activity will continue in the future.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further strengthen effective cooperation in the field of human rights protection.
