Construction of a new 152-kilometer Darbaza-Maktaaral railway has begun in Turkestan region, and a new border crossing on the Kazakh-Uzbek border will be opened as part of the project.

Part of the freight traffic between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will be redirected to a new direction. A new railway project will be implemented between the two countries. The length of the new Darbaza-Maktaaral railway, which will be built in the Turkestan region, will be 152 kilometers.

Kanat Almagambetov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Company "Kazakhstan Railway", said that the Darbaza-Maktaaral railway will directly connect remote areas of the Turkestan region, such as Maktaaral and Zhetisai, with other regions of the country, 9 railway stations will be built on it. Almagambetov said that with the help of this railway line, goods sent to Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will be transported faster. Noting that the issue of building a railway to India through Pakistan is currently being discussed, the official said that the Darbaza-Maktaaral line would be an important contribution to this strategic route.

On the other hand, since the beginning of the year, 25.8 million tons of cargo have been transported between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. At the same time, with the inclusion of the Turkestan Velayat in the country's railway network, the railway project will contribute to the development of the region.
