The memory of those killed in the events of 2002 in Kyrgyzstan was honored
They honored the memory of the victims of the events that killed 6 people as a result of firing live ammunition from security forces during a peaceful protest held 22 years ago in the Aksinsky district of the Jalal-Abad region of Kyrgyzstan.
The Presidential Press Center shared a memorable message from Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the "Aksa of Events".
In his message, Zhaparov noted: "Exactly 22 years ago, the first political incident in the modern history of Kyrgyzstan occurred, which cost the lives of civilians."
Stating that the events in Aksy led to a joint struggle against the authoritarian government (of that period), Zhaparov said: "Every year on this day we remember our real heroes who gave their lives for the integrity of Kyrgyzstan, the freedom of its people and the future of the country."
"The heroes of the events in Aksy have become the embodiment of courage, the will to freedom and democracy," Zhaparov said in his message, stressing that he believes that current and future generations will learn lessons from this tragedy.
Zhaparov noted that they will not forget the events in Aksy and, as a state, will do everything possible to justify the development of the country and the hope of the people.
Aksa Events
During the reign of the first president of Kyrgyzstan, Askar Akayev, the border agreement, which provided for the transfer of the Uzengu-Kuush section on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border to China in 2021, caused controversy.
Deputy of the Jalal-Abad region Azimbek Beknazarov said that the government's agreement on the border with China does not meet the interests.
Beknazarov was detained on January 5, 2002 on charges of abuse of office while working in the prosecutor's office of Jalal-Abad district.
On March 17, 2002, law enforcement officers opened fire on villagers who took to the streets of the Aksy district in protest against the border agreement and demanding the release of the deputy.
Yerkinali Chetinbayev, Kadyrul Saparaliyev, Medetbek Bekmuratov, Satmabai Urkyunbayev, Sovetbek Tagaev and Eldiyar Umetaliyev were killed at the scene.
Since then, various events have been held in Kyrgyzstan in memory of the victims who died during a peaceful demonstration in the capital Bishkek and in the Aksinsky district of Jalal-Abad region.
