Russia: Westerners should understand that the war in Ukraine has reached an impasse

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Europe and the United States are having difficulty supporting Ukraine: "They (Westerners) must understand that the war they started has completely reached an impasse."

Lavrov met with Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik, who visited the Russian capital Moscow.

Following the meeting, the ministers held a joint press conference.

Speaking at the meeting, Lavrov said that Western countries are experiencing difficulties in supporting Ukraine: "Both in Europe and in the United States there are difficulties in finding free money to continue to support the administration of (Vladimir) Zelensky, which clearly does not meet expectations. They (Westerners) need to understand that the war they started has come to a complete standstill," he said.

Saying that they are open to peace talks with Ukraine, Lavrov recalled statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin that "the conditions for negotiations will be tough."

Lavrov also noted that the leaders of some Western countries had sent signals to Russia through various channels about the negotiations, and said: "Those who want to put an end to their attempts to ensure their security at the expense of the security of others and violate Russia's legitimate interests are welcome. We are ready to discuss these issues," he said.
