President of Kazakhstan Tokayev: It is very important for the Turkic states to unite against threats

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that it is important for the Turkic states to unite against various threats in the world.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the 10th session of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States, which he hosted in Astana, the capital of the country. He spoke at the summit.

Welcoming the visiting heads of state with the words "Welcome to Kazakhstan, the ancestral homeland of the Turkic peoples," Tokayev said: "First of all, I would like to congratulate my brother President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the entire fraternal Turkish people on the 100th anniversary of Turkey. I want to congratulate you on your anniversary. The centuries-old history of Anatolia is full of great achievements."

Tokayev also congratulated Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his people on ensuring territorial integrity and said: "Your country has entered a new historical era of development. This historic step was carried out within the framework of the United Nations Charter and Security Council resolutions."

Recalling that the Cooperation Council of Turkic–speaking States, created on the initiative of Kazakhstan, has now turned into a full-fledged international organization, Tokayev said that their next goal is to preserve unity based on trust and brotherhood among themselves and pass it on to future generations.

Stressing that OTG is the heir to the common values of the Turkic peoples, extending from Baikal to the Balkans, Tokayev said: "Kazakhstan is determined to further develop the Organization of Turkic States. We have to introduce a new brand "Turkic World".

Noting that today the term of the chairmanship of the OTG has passed from Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that during this period the main attention will be paid to strengthening the influence of the OTG in the international arena.

Stating that Kazakhstan's presidency will be held under the slogan "Turkic Era" in order to promote Turkic unity, Tokayev said: "In this context, we will give priority to 8 areas, such as traditions, unification, reforms, science, trust, investment, mediation and energy. We have a common history, culture, language and religion. Accordingly, flags and emblems of the Organization of the Turkic States and its organizations should have the same design. The decision that will be made on this issue will be historic," he said.

Tokayev stressed the importance of joint research on the common history and dissemination of a number of countries among themselves.

Noting that the parallel development of the Turkic states is very important, Tokayev proposed to systematize the common standards of the countries, especially in order to increase mutual trade.

Also stating that the interest in OTG from international and regional organizations has increased and that cooperation in the field of elections needs to be strengthened, Tokayev noted that the Economic Cooperation Organization will be granted observer status at this summit, and proposed to develop cooperation with the Islamic Organization for Food Safety.

Noting that the international situation is currently unstable, Tokayev said: "The unity of the Turkic peoples is very important in such an (unstable) world. This is the guarantee of our common security."

Stressing the need to strengthen cooperation in the field of security, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed to hold the 3rd meeting of the Secretaries of the OTG Security Councils in Astana next year.

Referring to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Tokayev stressed that ensuring the safety of civilians in Gaza is their common duty, and said: "I have decided to provide the Palestinian people with humanitarian aid from Kazakhstan in the amount of $1 million."

Noting that Kazakhstan considers it a priority to respect the territorial integrity of each country and not interfere in its internal affairs, Tokayev said: "It is very important that the Turkic states unite against various threats and help each other."
