Local elections will be repeated in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia
It was announced that the early local elections held in Serbia on December 17, 2023, will be repeated in the capital Belgrade.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, in his address to the nation, made statements regarding the early local and general elections held in the country on December 17, 2023.
Vucic stated that after the elections, local elections will be repeated here, since there is no majority in the Belgrade municipality and the city council cannot be formed.
Stating that Alexander Sapic will be the candidate of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNC) in the upcoming local elections in Belgrade, Vucic noted that they plan to repeat the elections on June 2.
Vucic also said that the SNC–led alliance "Aleksandar Vucic - Serbia must not stop" would inform him in a few days of the names that would form part of the new government.
Referring to comments that Serbia's armament is being called a threat in the region, Vucic said: "Serbia is arming itself to protect itself, not to threaten anyone in the region."
Meanwhile, in the local elections in Belgrade, the SNC won 39.93% of the vote, and the Serbia Against Violence alliance, consisting of opposition parties, received 35.39% of the vote.
On the other hand, in the early general elections in the country, the alliance "Aleksandar Vucic – Serbia must not stop" led by the SNC, which has been in power since 2012 and supported by President Vucic, announced that he had won the elections, gaining 46% of the votes and managed to get 129 deputies to the 250-seat parliament.
It is expected that a new government will be formed in the country in the near future.
