Kremlin Press Secretary Peskov responded: What role did Russia play in Assad's departure?

Kremlin spokesman Peskov, when asked what role Russia played in Assad's resignation, said: "Assad's decision to step down is his own decision. I leave the rest of the questions without comment," he said. Speaking about Russia's future military influence in the Middle East, Peskov said: "Now is the time to deeply analyze what is happening. It is currently difficult to predict how the region will develop after this period of uncertainty."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said about Russia's future military influence in the Middle East after the fall of the Baath regime in Syria: "Now is the time to deeply analyze what is happening. "It is currently difficult to predict the final shape of the region after this period of uncertainty."

Peskov commented to journalists on the issues on the agenda in the capital Moscow.

Asked what role Moscow played in the resignation of Bashar al-Assad, who took refuge in Russia with his family, Peskov said: "Assad's decision to leave his post is his own decision. I leave other questions without comment."

Asked if Russia is concerned about maintaining its military influence in the Middle East after Assad's departure, Peskov said: "Of course, now is the time to deeply analyze the development of events. It is currently difficult to predict what final shape the region will take after this period of uncertainty."

Stating that Russia is in contact with all countries in the region, Peskov said: "We will continue the dialogue. Our interests coincide with many countries in the region. We have quite extensive cooperation in trade and economic, as well as in other matters. We intend to continue all these processes.

"WE WILL ACHIEVE OUR GOALS IN RELATION TO UKRAINE"

Peskov's spokesman commented on the possibility of resuming negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, noting:

"The special military operation (in Ukraine) will end when all the goals set by the President are achieved. These goals will be achieved either through exploitation or through negotiation. There is no negotiation process yet. Ukraine denies this. Therefore, the special military operation will continue until victory is achieved."
