Joint statement of Azerbaijan and Armenia on the peace agreement
Azerbaijan and Armenia confirmed their intention to sign a peace agreement, stating that they agree that there is a possibility of achieving peace.
The joint statement of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia stated that following the meetings held between Baku and Yerevan, an agreement was reached on taking important steps to strengthen trust between the two states.
The statement reads: "Azerbaijan and Armenia agree that there is a historic opportunity to achieve long-awaited peace in the region. "Both states confirm their intention to settle relations and sign a peace agreement based on respect for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity."
The statement reported that Azerbaijan had decided to release 32 Armenian servicemen and Armenia had decided to release 2 Azerbaijani servicemen as a sign of goodwill, and also noted that, as a sign of goodwill, Armenia had supported Azerbaijan's bid to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) and withdrew her candidacy.
The statement stressed the hope that Baku and Yerevan will support Azerbaijan's bid to host the conference, as well as other countries of the Eastern European Group.
The statement notes that Azerbaijan also supports Armenia's candidacy for membership in the Bureau of the Eastern European Group "COP" as a gesture of goodwill, and says: "Azerbaijan and Armenia will continue negotiations on the implementation of additional confidence-building measures to be implemented in the near future, and call on the international community to support these efforts. This will contribute to strengthening mutual trust between the two states and will have a positive impact on the entire South Caucasus region."
