Hakan Fidan: The war that started in Gaza could escalate into an even bigger whirlpool

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said: "What is happening now in the Red Sea, what is happening in Iraq, what is happening in Syria; One should not be misled by the fact that such attacks and mutual positioning are harbingers that the spiral of war that began in Gaza will gradually turn into a larger whirlpool."

Minister Fidan spoke at a joint press conference with Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlic Radman after his meeting at the Ministry.

Noting that the events in the Balkans directly affect Turkey and Croatia, Fidan said: "It is in the interests of our countries to maintain peace and stability in the region and improve well-being. Bosnia and Herzegovina, which borders Croatia, is also an important country for us. As you know, we emphasize our support for peace, stability and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina at every opportunity. We are very pleased to see the same will on the Croatian side. We believe that direct high-level contacts should continue to ensure peace and stability in the region."

"We will continue our work to establish peace"

Stating that they also exchanged views on important regional issues with his counterpart, Fidan said:

"We also discussed the Russian-Ukrainian war and the human tragedy in Palestine. Unfortunately, both conflicts are still ongoing. We want these conflicts in our immediate geography to end as soon as possible. I informed my colleague first-hand about the initiatives we are implementing on these issues... While the massacre in Gaza continues, we often talk about the risk of regional expansion. While everyone expected that regional expansion would begin in Lebanon, this event came from other places. What is happening in the Red Sea now, what is happening in Iraq, what is happening in Syria; One should not be misled by the fact that such attacks and mutual positions are an omen that the spiral of war that began in Gaza will gradually turn into an even bigger whirlpool. We will continue our work to establish peace at full speed and will make every effort to ensure that the massacres committed by Israel meet the necessary reaction in the international community, both political and legal."
