Foreign Minister Fidan: "Venezuela occupies an important place in Turkish politics

" Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said: "Venezuela occupies an extremely important place in Turkish politics in the region."

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Turkey and Venezuela maintain a very productive and improving pace of relations at all levels, and said that "Venezuela occupies an extremely important place in Turkey's policy in the region."

Fidan spoke at a joint press conference after meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Hill.

Recalling that he continued his Latin American tour, which he started from Brazil on the occasion of the G20, with Venezuela, Fidan said that he was received by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and conveyed to him the greetings and good wishes of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and also said: "We had the opportunity to confirm the mutual will to ensure strategic relations between the two countries have developed in all areas."

Minister Fidan said that Turkey and Venezuela have a very productive and improving pace of relations at all levels, and that there is great potential in the fields of economy, trade, mining, energy, agriculture and tourism.

"Frankly speaking, we expect that our trade volume between the two countries, which as of last year was about $800 million, with great efforts will reach the goal of $3 billion set by our leaders this year," Fidan said, adding that Erdogan has plans to visit Venezuela this year year.

Fidan continued as follows:

"Venezuela occupies an extremely important place in Turkey's policy towards the region. There are many issues on which Venezuela and I have a common position, especially on regional and international issues. As you know, the first of them is the question of Palestine. At my meeting last night, we expressed our appreciation and gratitude to President Maduro. We would also like to express our gratitude to my brother, the Minister.

In particular, we thanked them for the position they have taken in the face of ongoing injustice, oppression, lawlessness, double standards and the rottenness of the international system in Palestine. The more countries find themselves in this position, the more pressure there will be on the real problem, and I hope that together we will prevent this persecution."

Explaining that he had the opportunity to talk with his colleague Gil about specific issues in the field of petrochemistry, mining and tourism, Fidan said that some Turkish companies have also expressed their interest in energy and that they expect great discoveries in these issues in the future.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil said they were "proud" of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's position on Palestine, and added: "We believe (Turkey) played an important role in the victory of the Palestinian people."

Speaking at a joint press conference after meeting with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Gil said Turkey strongly supports unilateral sanctions against Venezuela.

Pointing to the two countries' common position on protecting the Palestinian people and condemning the genocide, Gil said he had discussed these issues with his colleague Fidan.

Gil said they were "proud" of President Erdogan's position on Palestine and that Erdogan condemned the actions of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and Israel.

Gil noted,

"They condemn it without a shadow of a doubt. We condemn the genocide and the Israeli attack on the Palestinian people. We highly appreciate Turkey's leadership in the Islamic world, its leadership in the Muslim world, and its leadership in the region. We think he will play an important role in helping the Palestinian people achieve this victory."

"We want to increase our trade turnover, which was $800 million last year, to $3 billion this year."

Speaking at a joint press conference after meeting with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Gil said it was the first time Fidan had visited Venezuela as foreign minister and that they were very pleased with it.

 

Gil stated that cooperation between Venezuela and Turkey is continuing intensively thanks to the presidents of the two countries, and said: "We want to increase our trade, which amounted to $800 million last year, to $3 billion this year. We will continue our efforts to further develop the imports and exports of the two countries."

Stating that they had a "very" productive meeting with Minister Fidan, Gil said: "We shared with him the path and progress that our President Nicolas Maduro has paved for our prosperity. We also discussed with him the issue of the conflict with Guyana and our position as a country."

"We strive to improve our cooperation in the fields of mining and communications"

Recalling that Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar recently visited Venezuela, Gil said: "Venezuela is an important supplier of raw materials for Turkey in the petrochemical industry. We have made significant progress in the field of energy and are striving to improve our cooperation in the field of mining and communications."

Stressing that Turkish Airlines (THY) operates 8 flights a week between Caracas and Istanbul, Gil said that in the future they want to increase their cargo and travel capabilities to an even more advanced level.

Foreign Minister Gil noted that Turkey has great potential in the field of tourism and that they want to evaluate projects and opportunities for cooperation in the field of tourism.

"We will hold the 2nd business Forum in Caracas"

Stressing that they want to cooperate with Turkey in the fields of trade, mining, industry and energy, Gil said: "Today is the 4th. We decided to hold a Joint Commission on Economic Relations in May. Thank you for inviting Turkey. We are waiting for R.T. Erdogan's visit to Venezuela. We will hold the 2nd business Forum in Caracas. We held the first one last year, and this year we will have a very important work program."

"Turkey is a reliable, strategic business partner for us," Gil said and concluded his remarks with the following words:

"Turkey is very important for Venezuelan citizens and businessmen. As Mr. Fidan said, we have a common position in the field of international law. We would like to thank the Republic of Turkey for the United Nations (UN) law and the importance of national sovereignty."
