Fidan called on the Islamic world to exert pressure to impose an arms embargo on Israel

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that Turkey has secured the support of 52 countries, including permanent members of the UN Security Council, on the issue of stopping the supply of weapons and ammunition to Israel.

Fidan stressed that everyone should take on greater responsibility and act together: "Now is the time to demonstrate our unity." In his speech at an emergency meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States on the Palestinian issue, Fidan noted the need for joint efforts to stop Israel's genocidal attacks on Gaza.

He also expressed concern about the situation around Al-Aqsa, stressing that far-right political figures in Israel openly declare their intention to change the historical status quo of the shrine. According to Fidan, this problem concerns not only the Palestinians, but also all Muslims, so it is important to speak with one voice — not only in words, but also in deeds.

"The first measure is pressure to impose an arms embargo on Israel"

Fidan noted that despite the existence of a moral basis for supporting Palestine, there is still a lack of concrete action. He added that some countries continue to supply arms to Israel, allowing it to conduct military operations, and suggested the first step is to exert pressure to impose an arms embargo. "We have launched an initiative to stop arms supplies to Israel at the UN level and have secured the support of 52 countries, including permanent members of the Security Council. Now is the time to show our solidarity," the minister said.

Fidan also suggested using additional tools, such as suspending trade relations with Israel and participating in the ongoing genocide case against Israel in the International Court of Justice. In addition, he called for the launch of a campaign to support the United Nations Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA).
