European NATO members strike deal to buy up to 1,000 Patriot missiles
It was reported that NATO plans to purchase 1,000 Patriot air defense missiles in order to strengthen its defense capability.
In the news of the German media, according to the NATO procurement agency NSPA, it was said that missiles worth $ 5.5 billion would be purchased jointly by member countries.
It was stated that the countries that will purchase the systems include Germany, the Netherlands, Romania and Spain.
It was reported that the purchased Patriot missiles would allow NATO countries to supply Ukraine with more missiles than their own stocks, which means that Ukraine will be able to better protect its territory from Russian attacks.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also welcomed the statement made by the alliance partners and said: "These investments demonstrate the strength of transatlantic defense cooperation and NATO's commitment to the security of our peoples."
A joint venture between the European defense manufacturer MBDA and the American company Raytheon will be responsible for the production of missiles.
The production of the missiles will be carried out in Schrobenhausen, Bavaria, where maintenance is currently being carried out.
