Ersin Tatar: Providing people with disabilities with an easier life is our common responsibility
President Ersin Tatar spoke at the 1st Conference on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, held with the support of the Presidency. Tatar stated: "Providing people with disabilities with an easier life and supporting them is our common responsibility."
The Tatar President stressed that according to the Constitution, every citizen has the right to equality, and that providing people with disabilities with an easier life and supporting them with modern reforms is a common responsibility.
Tatar made a speech at the opening of the "1st Conference on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities", held with the support of the presidency.
The Tatar President began his speech by expressing gratitude to the Committee for the Disabled under the Presidency and his wife Sibel Tatar, noting that extensive work is underway.
Tatar expressed hope that the results of the conference will be transmitted to the relevant institutions, ministries and the Republican Assembly for further discussion and action.
The President noted that for many years he had worked in cooperation with disabled associations and recalled the chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Association of Orthopedic Invalids, Mustafa Celik, mentioning his words: "Love overcomes any obstacles," which, according to the Tatar, have become widely known in society.
"This sensitivity lives in each of us," the president said, noting that about 6,500 disabled people live in Northern Cyprus, and that the problems associated with them are regularly raised by associations. Tatar stressed that Northern Cyprus is a social state and that they all share a common sensitivity.
Tatar also noted the importance of developing not only the economy, but also providing modern solutions in environmental protection. He stressed that every citizen has the right to equality and that it is necessary to provide people with disabilities with all opportunities to integrate into society.
Addressing the participants of the conference, Tatar called on all interested parties to gather, discuss problems and express their proposals so that they can be implemented. He stressed that although it may take time, they have a goal. The President stressed that providing people with disabilities with an easier life and protecting their rights is a common responsibility of all citizens.
"They are our values. We have always appreciated the disabled. We will continue to do this in the future," Tatar said, adding that anything can happen to anyone and that it is necessary to be prepared.
The President expressed hope that strengthening ties and increasing awareness in society will help create a healthier society.
