The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has announced that Azerbaijan has become a member of the Organization of Eight Developing Countries (D-8).

Azerbaijan was unanimously accepted as a member of the D-8 organization at the 11th summit held in Cairo, the Egyptian capital, the ministry said in a statement.

The statement noted that for the first time since its creation, the D-8 has expanded by recruiting new members, and noted that membership in the D-8, the so-called "Islamic Eight", which makes up 60 percent of the world's Muslims and has great economic potential, is a clear example of Azerbaijan's growing influence in the world. international peace and the trust placed in this country.

The statement says that Azerbaijan will play an important role in preserving the basic principles of the D-8 and deepening cooperation within the organization: "Establishing cooperation based on security, stability, prosperity and mutual benefit in our region, developing relations in economic and trade, transport, communications and many other important areas is of great importance.. Azerbaijan's membership in the D-8, which acts as a bridge between East and West and is one of the main cultural, religious and civilizational centers of the Islamic world, will make a great contribution to strengthening Islamic solidarity, promoting Islamic values in the world and combating Islamophobia."

Organization of Eight Developing Countries (D-8)

The D-8 organization was established on June 15, 1997 in Istanbul. The Organization's secretariat, whose members include Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria and Pakistan, as well as Turkey, is located in Istanbul.

The total population of the D-8 countries, all of which are also members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), is approximately 1.2 billion people, and the total volume of foreign trade is 2.3 trillion dollars, which corresponds to about 5 percent of world trade.

The main objective of the Organization is to improve the position of countries on the path of development in the global economy, diversify their trade relations, create new opportunities for member countries in the field of trade, and ensure their active participation in decision-making mechanisms at the international level.

The D-8 is based on the principles of peace instead of conflict, dialogue instead of confrontation, cooperation instead of exploitation, justice instead of double standards, equality instead of discrimination, and democracy instead of oppression.

The main areas of activity of D-8 are trade, agriculture and food security, industry, energy and transport, as well as communications, while research is also conducted in the fields of health and tourism.

Aliyev praised Azerbaijan's membership in D-8

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev noted that they are proud to be members of the Organization of Eight Developing Countries (D-8), which for the first time decided to expand, and said: "I assure you that Azerbaijan, together with other countries, will spare no efforts to further develop the organization and strengthen Islamic solidarity."

In a message on his account, Aliev said that his country participated in the 11th edition of the D-8 Organization, held in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. At the summit, he appreciated the acceptance of the organization's members.

Thanking the heads of state and government of the D-8 member countries - Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria and Bangladesh, Aliyev said: "The support provided to Azerbaijan's candidacy is evidence of our sincere friendship and cooperation with these countries. The D-8, which was created on the initiative of Turkey, has been in operation for about 30 years and the decision to expand was made for the first time. It's a reason for us to be proud. I assure my colleagues that Azerbaijan, together with other countries, will spare no efforts to further develop the organization and strengthen Islamic solidarity," he said.

The 11th edition of the D-8 Organization was held in Cairo. At the summit, Azerbaijan was unanimously accepted as a member of the organization.
