A meeting of the Council of Heads of Muslim Spiritual Administrations was held in Tashkent

The fourth meeting of the Council of Heads of Muslim Religious Councils of the Organization of Turkic States (OTG) was held in Tashkent.

The meeting, organized by the President of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Uzbekistan, Sheikh Nuriddin Khaliknazarov, was attended by the Secretary General of the TDT, Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Chairman of the Board of Muslims of the Caucasus of Azerbaijan, Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, President of the Spiritual Board of Uzbekistan. Muslims of Kazakhstan, Nauryzbai Taganuly, President of the Religious Council of Kyrgyzstan, Abdumanan Masaliyev, President of the Department of Religious Affairs of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Ali Erbash and the Supreme Mufti of Turkmenistan Yalkap Khojaguliyev attended the event.

 

In his opening speech, Secretary General Kubanychbek Omuraliev stressed the importance of cooperation in the religious sphere between the Turkic states and stated that, given the current challenges of the world, the Turkish-Islamic civilization is responsible for providing the necessary answers to the problems of the time, as well as for developing solutions.

 

The Secretary General stressed that cooperation in the religious sphere has begun to bring concrete results, and the parties agreed to issue a joint fatwa on Islam's attitude to extremism, which is the first fatwa adopted by the Turkic states.

 

The sides stressed the importance of deepening cooperation in the religious sphere and increasing cooperation in this area will contribute to peace in the region and beyond.

 

As concrete results of the meeting, the parties agreed on the publication of the document "Islam's Position on Extremism", the creation of a "Fatwa Coordination Group", scientific research on religious issues, the organization of an experience exchange program for religious educational institutions, and the organization of a joint forum reflecting the values of Turkish-Islamic civilization.
