The TRNC wants to make the port of Famagusta accessible to the vessels of the member States of the OTG

Erhan Arıklı, Minister of Public Works and Transport of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, noted that they are waiting for the result of the application they submitted a year ago to make the port of Famagusta accessible to ships of the member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTG), and said: "We want the port of Famagusta, which is the most fortified place in the Eastern Mediterranean, it was the base of the Turkish states."

In his assessment, the Minister of Public Works and Transport of the TRNC Arykly stated that as a TRNC observer member of the OTG, a year ago submitted an application for the inclusion of the port of Famagusta in the OTG Twin Ports program, and recalled that this issue was again raised on the agenda at the informal summit of the heads of state of the OTG, held in Shusha, Azerbaijan.

Stating that a total of eight ports, including two from Turkey, are participating in the OTG program, he said they aim to make Famagusta the ninth port of the program.

Minister Arykly noted that the share of maritime transport in the volume of world trade is increasing more and more every year, and stated that the inclusion of the port of Famagusta in the program will benefit both other members of the OTG and the TRNC.

Also stating that they hope that their application to the OTG Secretariat for the inclusion of the port of Famagusta in the Twin Ports program will be accepted, Arykly stressed that they, as always, expect the support of the Turkish homeland in this regard.

Arykly stated that the development of political, cultural and commercial relations between the members of the OTG will contribute to global stability both regionally and globally, and said:

"We want the port of Famagusta, which is the most fortified place in the Eastern Mediterranean, to become a base for the Turkish states. Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, which want to participate in world trade, should be able to use the port of Famagusta as if it were their own port. As a TRNC, we want to get a share of the growing maritime trade in the world, and this situation will benefit our country politically."

Minister Arykly recalled that the European Union (EU) does not have an official decision on the embargo on the TRNC ports, and stated that they added a letter to their application to the OTS for the port of Famagusta, which was given by the Commission as a result of an application submitted to the EU Commission in the past, with the content "There is no decision that The ports of the TRNC are prohibited or embargoed ports."
